There are a myriad of career assessments on the market today; however, the following tests have stood the test of time with the validity and reliability that are unquestionably some of the best that are available.
The Strong Interest Inventory
This assessment measures interests, not abilities. It identifies a person’s likes and dislikes as compared to 109 specific jobs. The Strong Interest Inventory assessment also takes into consideration general patterns of what a person’s interests might be, whether it is on or off of the job, such as leisure activities. Finally, it also measures a person’s work and learning environment. It has been utilized by millions of people and is often touted as the best overall career interest test available.
The Myers Briggs Temperament Indicator
Better known as the MBTI, The Myers Briggs Temperament Indicator assessment has a reputation as the world’s most widely used personality inventory. Over the 60 years since its inception in 1943, the MBTI has evolved and been perfected through continual research and development of even more accurate questions. Several million people have taken the test (actually it is an inventory or psychological instrument rather than a test – as a test suggests right or wrong answers.) All answer choices in the MBTI are equally desired. The MBTI research database is huge. This assessment has been normed by a team of experts in the field of psychometrics (psychological testing experts).
FIRO-B
This particular assessment is not designed to measure anything in actuality. It was developed to estimate the levels of behavior with which people feel comfortable with regard to their needs for inclusion affection and control. The vast majority of people who have taken the FIRO-B have reported that their results have helped them to understand themselves and others.
